I can't believe that the basic recipe above, or one of the alternatives, does not include adding the basic potato addition called butter. This makes me think that the Potato Council does not know the first thing about potatoes. When my niece visited from USA and told me that her mum makes the best potato in the world, I accepted the challenge and she agreed she was wrong, mine was way better. When I compared recipes with my sister-in-law, the difference was butter

When I was in NY america, I ate at that bubbagump shrimp restaurant, from the Tom hanks film and they had the most delicious mash, it had the skin in it and was just delicious. anyone from the US know the recipe, my sister asked and said it was using red rooster potatoes but I tried it and it didnt nessacarily taste much different to regular mash. Thanks

Thanks Ellie & Kelly,

Ellie you are absolutely right, the pink comes from the beetroot, but you could also try to add red daikon radishes too.....a great way to get kids eating more veg!

Hi Kelly,
Pink mash has cooked beetroot cubes added to the potato and then mashed an normal. The beetroot makes the mash slightly sweet and bright pink - perfect for kids.
