700g (1lb 9oz) floury potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
150 ml (¼pt) milk
salt
freshly ground black pepper
Just a few simple ingredients can transform this classic mashed potato into the perfect partner for any dish:
Apple Mashed Potato
Add a grated red skinned eating apple, tossed in a little lemon juice to the mash just before serving.
Horseradish Mashed Potato for Roast Beef
Try adding a teaspoon or two of horseradish sauce to the mash just before serving with British Beef.
Pesto or Mustard Mashed Potato
Stir in 1-2 teaspoons of pesto or mustard per person.
Caramelised Onion Mashed Potato
Add caramelised onions to a bowl of mash to serve with beef casserole,
Herb Mashed Potato
Mix in chopped fresh herbs such as oregano or dill, which are delicious with chicken or fish, or try basil or thyme if you're serving the mash with a tomato-based dish

Hi Kelly,
Pink mash has cooked beetroot cubes added to the potato and then mashed an normal. The beetroot makes the mash slightly sweet and bright pink - perfect for kids.

Hi,
I went to a children's party recently and they served 'pink mash'. Have you heard of this or can you recommend a recipe for this? I would obviously like to avoid anything that contains artificial colourings.

Hi Yousry,
You can freeze mashed potato but we recommend doing that before you add any milk. We do not recommend that you freeze the potatoes for longer than 3 weeks - 1 month. We advise freezing whole, par boiled potatoes and these can keep for a month:

mashed ptoat has to be on the menu for me at least 5 days out of 7 but after some 60+ years of them I would really like to liven them up so I like what I see above and may well be adventurous
