Months of nurturing by our potato farmers has paid off as new potatoes are ready for harvest and for our plates!
British new potatoes are only available May to August so make sure you get some while you can. A portion of new potatoes costs just 13p and its versatility means there’s an endless choice of easy dishes for eating in. At only 26kcals per new potato they’re filling without piling on the pounds.
New potatoes make the best potato salads but they can also be baked, crushed, sautéed or simply boiled for a few minutes and served with butter. Ask for British new potatoes at your local supermarket or greengrocer.

If you want to grow King Edwards you'll need to get some potato seed from a garden centre towards the end of January, begining of February. These will need to be chitted (left to sprout) for six weeks and, as they are a maincrop variety, planted from March to May. You can harvest these between September to October. Farmers are just starting to lift this year's crop but as they store well they should be available in the supermarkets all year round.

Hello Emma, do take a look at our section The Potato - this has information on all the British varieties available and on the Growing Potatoes page you'll find more information on the growing seasons.

Hello Dennis, "Vales Emerald" are a delicious waxy early potato - a cross between Maris Peer/Charlotte. They tend to mature a little earlier and will make a delicious potato salad or just enjoy them on their own. Glad to hear they're growing well!
