If you want to grow King Edwards you'll need to get some potato seed from a garden centre towards the end of January, begining of February. These will need to be chitted (left to sprout) for six weeks and, as they are a maincrop variety, planted from March to May. You can harvest these between September to October. Farmers are just starting to lift this year's crop but as they store well they should be available in the supermarkets all year round.

I need to know when to plant and all there is to know about King Edward potatoes and when they are likely t be in the shops. I havent seen any for months.

Hello Dennis, "Vales Emerald" are a delicious waxy early potato - a cross between Maris Peer/Charlotte. They tend to mature a little earlier and will make a delicious potato salad or just enjoy them on their own. Glad to hear they're growing well!

I was supplied with some seed potatoes named "Vales Emerald". Growing very well, bit I've never heard of them. Can you give me any data, Early? Maincrop? etc
