Potato Gratin

Potato Gratin
Easy to make gratin and a versatile and tasty side dish. A traditional French recipe a gratin refers to the adition of breadcrumbs or cheese to give a browned topping. A great family favourite.
Method: 

Lightly grease an ovenproof dish.

Very thinly slice the potatoes then cover the base of the dish with a layer of slices.

Make alternate layers of potato, tomato and cheese seasoning with salt and pepper. Reserve approximately 25 g (1 oz) of cheese for the top.  Finish with a layer of potatoes.

Pour over the cream and top with the reserved cheese.

Cook for 1-1½ hours or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown - if the top is brown before the potatoes are cooked cover with foil and continue cooking.

180°C, Gas Mark 4 should do the trick and cook it for 1 - 1¼ hours or until the potatoes are soft and cooked through and the top goes golden brown.

My wife Betty is dying to try this receipe, but the weight of potates is still contradictory. Is it 675g (1 1/2 lb ) or is it 1 lb only which is only 454 g ? Sorry about this, - please can you put it right, 'cause I'm hungry ) - Eric Grant

Its an absolute treat guys this meal, How does one become a member of the potato council?

I also added circle slices of onion to the layers (so potato then onion then tomato).
