I made this pie with primary school aged children. They turned their noses up at some of the items going in the pie, but were willing to have a sample when cooked, 45 out of the 50 children gave thumbs up and said they would make the receipe again at home. We didn't put mash on top, to save time we used quick roll out puff pastry brushed with milk. It smelt and looked wonderful. I'm making again this year with another year group for WW2 day. Highly recomend it.

This is by far the best recipe, ok I know they are all very similar, I am catering for a WW2 buffet and apart from door step sandwiches with spam and fish paste this is the main element of the meal. I think much easier and to do on mass with a mash top....great and thanks.

Cook the veg in meat or game stock and Woolton Pie's fine; better than Spam anyway.
